Whether you’re a pro in front of the camera or it’s your first time, it’s easy to feel a few jitters in preparation for your NYC Brand Photography session. Most of my clients tend to feel some kind of nerves before their shoot, and it’s totally normal! However, nervous energy makes for uncomfortable photos, and I’m here to help you feel your best. Today I wanted to share five ways to kill the nerves for your brand shoot. Take a look!
Rub Hands Together
This is one of my favorite tips, and usually my go-to on set. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know the *exact* science behind it, but I’m telling you this works. When you start to feel nervous, rub your hands together gently for a few seconds. Something about the friction and the heat generated during this motion usually helps my clients loosen up a bit and relax.
2. Take Slow, Deep Breaths
Another easy fix for nerves is to take some slow, deep breaths. Tune everything out and just focus on a deep inhale and exhale. Center yourself mentally and physically with this exercise. It really helps in clearing your head and getting those intrusive thoughts out of mind!
3. Progressive Muscle Relaxation
This exercise is one I’ve recently started incorporating, but I’m telling you- it works. Progressive muscle relaxation is where you tense a muscle, such as your arm or stomach or hands, hold it, and then slowly relax. Similarly to the deep breaths, it helps you to take a step back, center your energy, and reset. Plus, a good stretch is good for posture!
4. Put On Your Favorite Tunes
Nothing gets me feeling better than my favorite playlist! When you come on set with our team, we always make sure to play whatever music gets you feeling like your best self. Sometimes we will even take a few minutes to just dance party and shake out all the bad vibes! Getting yourself loosened up and in the right headspace is so important for good NYC Brand Photography.
5. Look After Yourself
Last but certainly not least, take care of yourself! Nothing makes for worse brand photos than a tired, groggy subject. Make sure to drink plenty of water both the day before and day of the shoot, eat balanced meals both the day before and day of, and get a GOOD night’s rest! Trust me, your mind and your body will thank you.
